At what moment did you come to realize that your dog had entered their golden years?
Was it when their playful antics transformed into a gentle calm, no longer bringing about chaos and mischief? Or perhaps it was when they began to experience health challenges, or for some other reason?
One of our founders, has a lovely Pomeranian who is now six years old. While not quite old, this age marks the beginning of middle age for dogs.
One evening, she noticed her furry friend had a bad cough, and the next day, they visited the veterinarian. The vet diagnosed pneumonia along with a slight tracheal collapse and gently reminded her that at this stage in life, dogs often start facing various health issues. It struck her then that her little companion was no longer just a puppy; they had shared six wonderful years together.
As we all know, as dogs enter middle age and beyond, they may experience decreased mobility and potential heart or respiratory problems—sometimes even changes in vision. Every dog owner should be prepared for these realities and offer proactive care and affection to help ease any discomfort.
Upon returning home from the vet's office, she devoted herself to caring for her dog as if it were her own child—carefully administering medication and keeping an eye on its condition. After a long day filled with work and tending to her beloved pet’s needs, she lay in bed thinking that if one day her beloved dog left her, it must be heartbreaking, as if a part of her heart might be torn apart.
